A contemporary country estate on the Costa Brava with the perfect balance of privacy, style and the Mediterranean landscape

The Jané & Font architecture firm designed the renovation of two separate houses on a country estate at Begur on the Costa Brava, both for use by the same family. The clients wanted the houses to be close together but with the highest degree of privacy and a style suited to their individual owners.
Both homes - which share a modern, minimalist aesthetic - blend perfectly into their surrounding Mediterranean landscape thanks to the use of drystone to finish some parts, matching the earthy colors of nature itself.
The main house is built on three levels (the bottom one consisting entirely of the garage) and stands in a vast garden with an infinity pool and an ample veranda, which extends the living area outdoors. Thanks to the huge windows, the green of the landscape and the surrounding lawn merges with the home’s interiors, playing a key role in the renovation project.
The furnishings - all in warm varieties of wood and neutral shades embracing the whole range of greys - maintain the house’s immaculate contemporary look, also supported by the finishes chosen for the coverings.
To maintain the connection between indoors and outdoors, the same material is used for the floors of the entire living and sleeping areas and some of the outdoor paving: this is the Ragno Realstone_Rain collection, a stoneware inspired by an English limestone featuring subtle shade variations in tones of greige, which also harmonises with the colors of the drystone finish of the external walls.
Specifically, the architects chose the 120x120 cm size in Greige finish, the intermediate shade in the collection’s set of three - Almond, Greige and Taupe, also designed to enable attractive combinations of them.
The only break in this uniformity is one of the house’s bathrooms, where a cement tile-effect Decor from the concrete-effect stoneware Studio collection was used in 60x120 cm size to cover the wall behind the washbasin, perfectly matched with the slabs - from the same collection - in solid-color beige finish used on the floor and the other walls.
