Within the campus of Aalborg University in Denmark, the Brett & Bagels project, designed by Studio Onu, interprets the concept of a small bagel shop through a soft and enveloping language, directly inspired by the iconic shape of the product. The circular geometry of the bagel becomes the main design reference, translated into curves, rounded volumes, and tactile surfaces that define the entire space.
The space develops as a compact yet atmospheric room, where every element contributes to creating a sense of comfort. The padded seats, characterized by textile patterns and organic shapes, interact with tables featuring turned details and textured surfaces.
The walls, clad with vertical wooden slats, introduce rhythm and depth, while curtains and warm lighting reinforce an intimate and cozy perception. The whole generates a balance between contemporary aesthetics and almost domestic suggestions.
In this context, ceramics play a central role thanks to the Gleeze collection by Ragno, chosen to define the main architectural elements of the project: the bar counter and the two supporting columns, transformed into true scenic features.
Designed to give rhythm to the walls through reflections and volumes, Gleeze is a porcelain stoneware collection that combines strong material expressiveness with great compositional freedom. Available in White, Grey, Turquoise, Jade, and Beige colors and in modular sizes 10×10, 5×15, and 7.5×20, the collection is completed by super glossy three-dimensional surfaces, including the Egg and Eye structures, capable of creating dynamism and visual continuity in interior spaces.
In the Brett & Bagels project, Studio Onu uses the Jade shade, an intense and deep green that interacts with the warm materials and wooden finishes of the space.
The bar counter is clad with Gleeze Jade Egg 3D, a three-dimensional structure characterized by concave and convex surfaces that create a soft and continuous pattern. The design, readable as a sequence of rounded volumes, explicitly recalls the roundness of the bagel, transforming the cladding into a narrative element as well as a functional one. The super glossy finish amplifies the light, generating iridescent reflections that enliven the surface throughout the day.
The two columns are instead covered with Gleeze Eye 3D Jade, a structure with more elongated oval reliefs that introduce an elegant and rhythmic verticality. In this case, the repetition of the module emphasizes the slender geometry of the columns, transforming them into distinctive architectural features within the space. The dialogue between the two structures – Egg on the horizontal plane of the counter and Eye in the vertical development – creates a coherent and dynamic compositional balance.
The subtle tonal variations of the glaze and the fine surface irregularities contribute to a rich and authentic material effect, able to evoke a craft dimension while maintaining a contemporary language. The glossy surface also enhances the depth of the volumes and amplifies the play of light and shadow.
Thanks to the use of the Gleeze collection, the surfaces become the protagonists of the space, reinforcing the design concept based on softness and hospitality.
The result is a space where architecture, furnishings, and coverings work in synergy to offer a complete sensory experience, making Brett & Bagels a recognizable and strongly characterized place.
